Flooring Apprentice of the Year

CFJ Apprentice of the YearIn 2011 the Contract Flooring Association and Contract Flooring Journal (CFJ) made the decision to include a new category in their annual industry awards competition in order to highlight apprenticeships. The new award was the Flooring Apprentice of the Year. The competition is now well established within the flooring industry and highlights the hard work and achievements of flooring apprentices across the UK. The competition is open to all flooring apprentices.

This year's proud winner of the CFA/CFJ Apprentice of the Year competition is Alistair Craig of Lynas Carpets in Hamilton.

Alongside the prestigious award, Alistair was presented with a cheque for £500 from CITB Go Construct; CITB acting Chief Executive, Sarah Beale, who was the keynote speaker at the event made the presentation to Alistair.

The prize giving of the specialist tool kit took place on the 3rd of May at the FITA Training Centre in Loughborough. Alistair received prizes generously donated by the competitions many sponsors and included Adhesives, Cash Prizes, Electronic Measuring Equipment, Finishing Products, Flooring Accessories, Hand Tools, Power Tools, Subfloor Preparation Products, Training Courses, Vouchers and Work Wear.

'Alistair has shown a very mature attitude towards the course work since he started college. He has a genuine interest in the Floorcovering trade and actively seeks information to improve his knowledge of the industry.
As a student in the college Alistair has proven to be an influential presence in both the classroom and the workshop. From the start of the course he has helped the other students with perfecting the fitting techniques needed for the trade. It has come quite naturally to him and it shows how well he would train any apprentices who are lucky enough to work under him in the future.
He recognises the importance of continued training and will practice aspects of fitting techniques that he feels he will encounter or that he is less experienced with in order to build a first class reputation in the trade. He has been an asset to the college course in his time here and will prove to be a valuable member of the Floorcovering industry for the future.'
- Mark Purdie, Alistair's Tutor
