COP 26 AND THE TRANSITION TO SUSTAINABILITY

As COP 26 gets underway in Glasgow, we present, with thanks to Jane Thornback, Sustainability Policy Advisor at The Construction Products Association, a brief guide for CFA members to what it's all about and what the flooring industry has to do to be part of improving the sustainability of our sector.

COP 26 Briefing Paper

For an overview of the issues and what is happening at COP 26, the Briefing Document here will be informative and helpful.  This is just one of a number of documents from the CPA on sustainability which can be found here.

CPA Decarbonisation Directory: Manufacturers Declaring

Whilst Glasgow is primarily about world leaders making pledges and national governments upping their ambitions and actions on the path to Net Zero, it is also really important for businesses to make their own commitments. Companies are therefore encouraged to make their own climate pledges. The CPA can signpost these commitments in its CPA Decarbonisation Directory.

However in order to obtain this recognition on the CPA website, you will need to have made a public climate commitment and have an action plan made available on your website. CPA will provide the link to your commitment from their website. CFA are already included in the directory with reference to our ongoing work on sustainability.

To find out more about where to start, the UN Race to Zero and the SME Climate Hub provide a means of making a public commitment to combat climate change. The SME Climate Hub is designed to support businesses such as CFA Contractor members, providing practical ways in which you can reduce your carbon footprint and display both your commitment and actions to your customers.

CPA Sustainability Animation

CPA is also promoting a short animation video which explores what sustainability means to our industry. This is very much an introductory approach.  The video can be found here.
