Another Step Forward on the Roadmap
This time last year, we were coming out of the first national lockdown, with nearly 80% of construction sites open and the Government well aware of the significant economic value of construction. Twelve months on, the Prime Minister has confirmed that the latest lockdown restrictions will be eased again from next Monday 17 May, representing ‘a very considerable step on the road back to normality’. Whilst there are some significant changes, particularly in terms of close contact, anyone who can work from home should continue to do so and there will be minimal impact on construction activities, which should continue to implement the Site Operating Procedures as well as The Use of Face Coverings in Construction during Coronavirus.
The Prime Minister also announced that the outcome of the Government’s review into social distancing, including the rules on 1 metre plus and the wearing of face coverings, will be shared by the end of this month, giving businesses time to prepare for any changes from 21 June. Build UK will review the Site Operating Procedures and other guidance in accordance with the changes.
