The Value of Construction

Construction Minister Anne‐Marie Trevelyan has praised the industry’s vital role during the coronavirus pandemic, telling an audience at UK Construction Week earlier this month: ‘We in Government have thanked you time and again for everything you’ve done, and we continue to be grateful. In hugely challenging circumstances, you have helped maintain essential infrastructure, supported the delivery of public services, kept homes safe and secure, and now, you are driving the economic recovery.’  
 
With the announcement from the Prime Minister that the potential spread of the Indian variant could delay the end of social distancing measures beyond 21 June, the Minister also highlighted the importance of the Site Operating Procedures, which have been adopted across construction sites of all types and sizes, enabling the industry to continue working whilst other sectors had to close. Members should continue to implement the Site Operating Procedures, which will be reviewed by Build UK at the appropriate time in line with the outcome of the review into social distancing.
