CITB is the Industry Training Board and a partner in the Sector Skills Council for the construction industry in England, Scotland and Wales. Its task is to work with industry to encourage training, which helps build a safe, professional and fully qualified workforce.
CITB is empowered to impose a levy on employers in the construction industry 'engaged wholly or mainly in construction industry activities.' In other words, when construction activities take up more than half of your total employees' time (including subcontractors).
The Levy collected is used to ensure that industry invests in attracting and training new entrants, as well as retaining and developing its existing workforce by equipping them with the skills needed to ensure construction projects are completed safely, on time, to cost and to the highest standards. The support and funding it provides helps companies to improve skills, increase their competitiveness and respond to challenges such as the low carbon agenda, reducing costs on site and recruiting the best talent for their sector.
CITB offices and National Construction Colleges are located across the UK
