We recently held another in our series of Marketing Forums, which give CFA members the opportunity to discuss key issues of the day and to hear presentations from acknowledged experts in their fields.
The guest speaker at the recent meeting was Duncan King, Senior Technical Manager at the Construction Products Association. His presentation was on the highly topical subject of ‘Changes to Conformity Assessment Marking following Brexit – considerations affecting marketing’.
This is a topic which has caused considerable consternation in our sector for a number of months.
Duncan King talked about the various considerations which have been impacted by changes in the legislation. These include:
The intended date for the changes to come into force has already been pushed back a year, due to the lack of capacity at testing houses. Duncan pointed out that it could be “some years” before the current backlog is cleared. Hence another delay is increasingly viewed as likely.
It was also flagged up that there are a number of changes on the horizon, unconnected with Brexit, but arising from the Grenfell Tower fire. One of these is the Code for Construction Product Information, which will require the accurate description of products and their performance, as well as any associated risks.
CFA members can view Duncan’s presentation again via the Members’ Area of the CFA website, where they will also find a recording of the full webinar. CFA members will be receiving further updates on UKCA marking and will also be able to contact Duncan via their CFA membership if they have specific concerns.
The Marketing Forum is open to any members who have a marketing role - if you wish to be added to the circulation list email us at admin@cfa.org.uk
